COACHES CORNER
May 25, 2011
The Wings of Omaha hosted our first ever meet on May 15,
2011, at Northwest High School in Omaha. After the rain and cool weather things settled to be a great day and
great meet. Many Wings had PRs (Personal
Records). I was truly excited to be
involved and watch as you enjoyed the first of what will be many achievements
for you. Thanks Coaches and Parents for
your support.
Monday after the meet at the City of Omaha Junior/Middle
School Championships, many Wings did well. Of significant note, Jade and Deja, who compete for Buffet Middle
School, had outstanding performances.
Last Friday and Saturday, another member of the Wings did
well at the Nebraska State High School Championship. Taylor on Friday qualified for the finals in
the 100, 200 and 400. On Saturday after
competing she had earned 3 state championship medals for 2011. Now the Senior to be has a total of 6 state
medals - 3 in 2011 as a Junior, 2 in 2010 as a Sophomore and 1 in 2009 as a
Freshman.
School has ended for the year or soon will be. Still work on the basics during the
summer. Read (at least a book
month). Start thinking now that will school
opens again in August or September you will be the best you can be.
The Coaches, Parents and I are all proud of every one of
you. We encourage you to be at practice
as often as you can and on time. Learn
and work hard to get better. Remember we
do not measure success by those who cross the finish line first, or jumped the
highest or longest or threw the farthest—To us the winners are always those
who tried the best.
The Nebraska Association Championship will be June 18 and 19
at Burke High School. Let’s prepare and
work hard to do well there.
Our 2011 Region 8 meet will be at Hamlin University in St.
Paul, Minnesota. I am the Coordinator
for Region 8 (Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota) so
I will be there in Minnesota July 7 to 11.
Again Beginning in 2011 a total of Five (5)
will advance from the Region 8 meet to the National Championships. That is two more opportunities to go to
Nationals. Let’s go Wings and be in the
top 5 to go to Wichita, Kansas in July. When the opening ceremony begins on Wednesday, July 27, we will have
many Wings in the Olympic parade.
See you soon.
